Well, here’s a little gem for you: Jay-Z almost ditched his Yankee Stadium concert before it even started. Picture it: a recent Sunday night, and it’s 9 PM. Jay is supposed to be on stage while nearly half the audience is stuck outside in a chaotic scene. Classic move.
Sources say that around 8:55 PM, some gate-crashers decided to turn it into a free-for-all and rushed the entrance. Security went full lockdown mode and shut down all the gates. Fast forward to 10:15 PM, and there are still 20,000 fans outside. Even his VIP squad—A$AP Rocky, Tyler the Creator, Usher—you name it—were locked out. Talk about a mood.
The NYPD wasn’t exactly feeling generous either. Even after Jay’s team tried to pull a few strings, they were met with a firm no. Canceling the show was on the table, but Jay wasn’t about to screw over the fans who’d traveled God knows how far. Rescheduling? Yeah, right.
After some serious negotiating, they finally opened a gate, then another, letting the crowd trickle in like molasses. By 11 PM, about 10,000 fans were still left out in the cold.
